To kick off our new NHS Northstar Blog, we are excited to announce the 2024 NHS Northstar Cares Award winners. This award is presented annually to employees who have gone the extra mile to support our clients. We had many nominations last year and these three employees were selected because of the great things they do every day to support the individuals we serve. Sheila, Fred, and Robin received an engraved award and a cash prize.

Fred Berg:

Fred is an RSS at our Cresent home in Aurora, MN. Fred came to NHS via the ESI acquisition but had nearly 10 years of experience with ESI prior to his employment which started in October 2023. NHS Northstar is grateful that he chose to stay on and continue the excellent work he does, day in and day out. What makes Fred’s award special, is that the staff he supervises, nominated him for this honor. Fred is a true mentor and leads by example. His intelligent, compassionate, and kind support not only benefits the individuals he works with his staff and fellow colleagues. The staff wrote, “Fred is so much more to us than an RSS. He is the cornerstone that holds us all together.”

Robin Noble:

Robin works as a DSP at our Cedar home in Eveleth and has been an employee for over 18 years. Robin is a dedicated and conscientious worker. She makes a point to know the individuals well; from their favorite foods to their birthdays to knowing their likes and dislikes. Keeping the individuals at the center of care, helps her build strong relationships with the people she supports as well as her coworkers. Robin was described as a “Momma Bear” who will make sure that the folks she works with are be treated well. Robin carries out the mission of NHS every single day on the job.

Sheila Kingdon:

Sheila works in Hibbing Community Support Services and has been an employee for over 10 years. Sheila is dedicated and hardworking. She not only brings a positive energy but is focused on best practices for the people she supports. Her ability to see both the people she works with, as well as co-workers, as unique individuals who are deserving of compassion, dignity and respect made her stand out amongst the other nominees. Sheila is a true professional who represents NHS Northstar’s Guiding Principles and is always willing to go above and beyond to support the individuals and the company.

Congratulations to all our CARES winners! Thank you for being the gold standard in care at NHS Northstar.
