Residential Services Director

Overview

Reports to the Director of Program Operations, assists in providing supervisory leadership and direction for assigned program areas.

Base starting pay:

  • $68,000/yr, commensurate with experience

Duties

  • The Residential Director provides guidance and direction to the supervisory and direct support staff in matters related to services, regulatory compliance, referral source relations, and budgetary and fiscal performance.
  • Provides advocacy and input on organizational decisions which may affect the division and acts as a subject-matter expert on matters related to options for individuals challenged with developmental disabilities.
  • Coordinates effectively with external partners such as case managers, guardians, family members, and referral sources to promote retention and acquisition of new contracts; maintains high occupancy to ensure continued viability of division services; proactively forecasts openings and begins replacement planning process early to minimize unused resources.
  • Designs and implements policies, procedures, and methods to promote quality care, decrease risk to person’s served, and improve referral sources satisfaction.
  • Provides direct oversight of supervisory personnel; develops procedures to facilitate formal feedback on performance matters; proactively manages forecasted staffing needs; creates employee development strategies; coaches and disciplines staff (including mid-management staff) who fail to meet performance expectations.
  • Engages in candid discussions and problem-solving activities as a part of the Management Team; provides input into strategic initiatives, ideas, and planning; develops a “whole organization” approach to leadership, considering the health of the entire organization while still maintaining a role of advocate for the division.
  • Develops relationships with divisional and departmental leaders that promote high-quality care by leveraging their professional expertise in resolving challenges, both reactively and proactively.
  • Assists in the intake and discharge process, ensuring a smooth transition for the individual served; coaches Program Coordinators in implementing individual service plans and other care plans; follows-up regularly to monitor their progress in implementation.
    • Identifies skill deficiencies within the division and coordinates measures to correct the gaps.
    • Involved in the response to vulnerable adult and child maltreatment concerns from county and state partners; may conduct internal investigations with other departments when required; partners with the Quality Improvement Specialist in such efforts.
  • Demonstrates competency in fiscal management, personnel management, program development (including implementation and management), behavior management, effective public relations, motivating and sustaining staff enthusiasm and morale.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience/Education/Training

  • Meets the qualifications of a “Designated Manager” as identified in Rule 245D, or;
  • Meets the qualifications of a “Designated Coordinator” as identified in Rule 245D, and five years of supervisory level experience

Regulatory Requirements/Licensure

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • DHS Background Study
  • Meet the driving requirements and criteria acceptable to NHS Northstar’s insurance carrier
